Vote for Cruelty Free Hair Products
Cute, fuzzy little animals – we are talking bunnies, hamsters, and guinea pigs, here – are being abused in the name of skincare, makeup, and hair care. Definitely not OK!
“Cruelty-free” is more than a marketing term. Here’s what you need to know about cruelty-free cosmetics, the real deets on animal testing, and how to ID cruelty-free products.
What is Animal Testing, Really?
We’ve all seen the pictures of fluffy creatures with red, irritated eyes or burns on their skin. But what really goes on behind the scenes of an animal testing facility?
Animal testing for cosmetics includes applying ingredients to skin and eyes, force-feeding ingredients to animals over the course of weeks and months, and “lethal dose” tests, which involves feeding animals large amounts of a chemical to determine the dose that causes death.
The animals who survive are often blind, disfigured, and suffer internal damage. They are not given any form of pain relief during the testing and are usually killed once testing is complete.
Over 100,000 animals are subject to this form of torture due to animal testing every year. All in the name of new ingredients for lipstick or hair products?
Many countries have banned cosmetic testing on animals but, sadly, these practices are still conducted regularly. While animal testing is certainly not required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the U.S is one of the leading countries that run these types of tests.
At ST. TROPICA we feel it is our duty to supply our valued customers with the safest and highest quality ingredients available. And Certified Cruelty-Free is just as important to us as Certified Organic, and Certified Vegan.
What it means to be Certified Cruelty Free:
- We pledge to create our natural hair products without the use of animal testing
- We only use ingredient suppliers that produce ingredients free from animal testing
- Our unique hair products are guaranteed to be 100% free of new animal testing
How to ID Cruelty-Free Cosmetics
When shopping for nontoxic hair care and other cosmetics, you know reading ingredient listings is key to ensuring a product is safe. But what about cruelty free?
One way to know you are buying a product that contains no ingredients tested on animals is to go vegan. Plant ingredients are for sure exempt from these horrible tests. Look for the Leaping Bunny logo (make sure it’s authentic and not just a knock off) on brands who’ve taken the pledge to be cruelty free. And steer clear of products touting brand new ingredients. Often these newbies have undergone animal testing in order to be deemed safe for cosmetic use.
We proudly display the Leaping Bunny logo so you know we are committed to crafting a cruelty-free product. It’s not enough to use a few natural ingredients. We use Certified Organic ingredients in many of our products and absolutely no toxic ingredients, ever. All of our natural hair products are of course Certified Vegan and made with love.
We truly care about our customers and the creatures of the earth. You can do your part to help put an end to the outdated and inhumane practices of animal testing by voting with your dollars and purchasing from cruelty-free brands.
